paulmcleod2003
Hi Whats the best bike for a small 10 year old to move onto after loving his gasgas 50 boy. Thanks
telecat
Really you need to move to the Gas Gas Cadet 50 or the Beta Rev50. The New REV50 is just about in stock(seen one at Pennine Trialsport). But there are plenty of the old ones about and they remain a very good bike. I have seen the Cadet and it's also a good bike but get the lad on them and see what you reckon. The Chinese tyres on the REV50 aren't up to much and the V-Rubber on the Gas Gas is superior. However you can always change tyres. When Chris was looking to move these bikes He had a few friends who let him try them. You should look around and see if you can get a few rides on them to see how he does. Edited August 1, 2007 by Telecat
steve fracy
My son went from a Beta auto to a Rev50 for one year before moving onto the Rev80. A decision I don't regret at all. But, by far, I beleive the Rev80 is THE best 80 out there. My son competes now against adults in the Junior class on it and we have never run into any situation where it is lacking. Brilliant little bike that is built well! Cheers, Steve
paulmcleod2003
Thats for the advice, we have tried a Sherco 80 (small wheel), gasgas 80 & Clipic 80. My son liked the size of the Sherco but found the gasgas to big. What do you think about Clipic's!! We will be looking at the rev50 & gasgas 50 this weekend. telecat
Thomas Minta is doing rather well on a Clipic in the C & D nationals. The bike is nicely made and the cycle parts are pretty good as well. Pennine Trialsport bring them into the country. Chris tried the original prototype bike and liked it. It's more like a Gas Gas than a Beta. Edited August 1, 2007 by Telecat
tomsdad
I believe young Thomas Minta has been on a Beta 50 for several months. Certainly in the Nationals. My lad went from the Gas Gas 50 Boy to the Beta Rev80. He is 11 now and has been riding the 80 for over 2 years. Depends on the childs size I think. The Rev80 is a brilliant bike that will embaress many adult riders with the right pilot on board. Our problem is the thought of going to the 125 at the end of this year. Youth B class on an 80 doesn't sound good but the 125s seem sooooo heavy. Any thoughts ? Mike.
paulmcleod2003
Thanks, yes the rev 80 does look to be a good choice. My son is 4 foot 6 and 32kg
tomsdad
Just got the tape measure out. My lad is 4ft 7ins and 33kg & 12 years old in November. The suspension on the Rev80 is spot on for his size and with the bars cut down the bike fits a treat. His Gas Gas Boy was good but the Beta is better. Good luck. Mike. lastplacebrad
Slightly off topic i know guys, but did any of you see the OSET electric bikes at Hawkstone?,Our boys are 5 and 3 years old, the 5 y.o Harry been on the average to tall side, whereas Josh is 3 and a little short a***, just like me!!, I was impressed when Kinell showed his boy on one but was scepital to say the least until i had seen them. Although having seen them in the flesh, so to speak, i would love to, or in fact am going to buy one each of the 16" ones and the 12.5" ones. What do you think am i mad should i wait and buy petrol ones or as i ride at low north and we spend a lot of sundays at Dalby forest we can take em to both. As many of you are already trials dads i would like to hear your thoughts. Cheers Brad.
brian r
Brad, your not crazy. Think about the child being able to pick the bike up by himself and not needing someone to start it. No gas leaking all over. I think the little electrics are a fine choice to learn on.
p@ul250
My smallish 9 year old has switched from his 50 BOY to a BETA 80 with no problems. He still rides the 50 in trials and I think his riding of it has improved as well.
