My son has rode his 06, 125 sherco every weekend for the last 12 months

The air filter is replaced with a clean one

after every wash

Air filter oiled every 3-4 weeks with air filter oil (very very sticky)

The 2 stoke oil is castrol tts synthetic

mixed 250ml to 20 litre's of fuel

Is it normal that there's piston slap in 12 months

also he does not rev the nuts of the engine

The piston will wear eventually whatever maintenance you do.

However I clean and re oil the filter every time I ride the bike as dust / dirt getting between the piston and bore will make it wear faster. Also I run 80ml of Motul or Rock Oil to 5 litres, thats 320ML to 20 litres. THe bike doesn't smoke particularly and although others probably run less oil I can t see a bit more doing any harm.

The answer to your question is that there should not be any

piston slap at all if it's only as old as you discribe, under

normal use . You will have to take the head and barrel off and

have a look inside !

Not to be confused with primary gear backlash or other normal noises, I think a bit of rattle on the small bores is pretty normal. I have heard much worse in other bikes, but the simple facts remain that the 125 has to do a lot of work as compared to a big bike, and if you are going to ride it EVERY weekend, 1 or 2 days, some wear is normal....

Try an average MX bike to see how far you get, in the day, 1 piston for every 3-4- outings was average! Good oil and clean air are important, but a piston per year is not uncalled for at that rate! Having two bikes, I ran my 125 from "03 till ''07 riding it several times per year, but not often. Mainly practice. There was a bit of rattle but totally acceptable in my opinion. Could run many more years at that rate!
