I think I remember seeing on the clubs website the sections had already been laid out for the trial (?). There is a couple of days left before Sunday, perhaps there could be a change to this cancellation, but would need for the farmers to give it the green light. Does the club know the restrictions have been lifted, or better still could someone close to the clubs committee mention this?

Unless someone else can tell me otherwise, this appears to be the only trial in the country that has been canceled because of F&M. When you think of how much work went into it to preparing it, it seems such a shame. <_<

And did I mention I was soooooo looking forward to it

You are kidding Atomant, there are about a dozen trials cancelled throughout the country because of F&M, not to mention grass track racing and motocross ( I know I know this is a trials website!). Have you not been reading the newspapers or even the front piece of this website. Oh yeah I forgot we are not supposed to mention F&M on here!

Some landowners are a bit nervous at the moment, there so far has been three cases, we are certainly not out of the woods yet until the disease is contained fully. All it needs is a case reported after an event and that would be bad news for the sport indeed.

Cant blame landowners for being nervous after the last time! I'm just really disappointed that its not on. The longmynd is a really beautiful place and I was really looking forward to riding it. :)

Thank you for your support, Big John. Looking on ACU website & TMX website, our club is certainly not alone in taking this sensible precaution and respecting the farmers livelihood by cancelling the Longmynd trial.

As a farmer's wife + club secretary I certainly understand both points of view but the club is secure in its desire to be able to be welcomed onto the ground again for future trials and this will only happen if we respect the concerns of the farmers in the present climate.

Cliff and Ian - we respect and value your support and are glad that you are so keen to ride our trial but an event like this takes a huge amount of effort and dedication, not only in putting on the sections but in putting the programme together, getting times to riders, organising food, liasing with homeowners en route and local police and co-ercing 35 or so observers. Unfortunately we are too far down the line to back track. Also the movement ban has only been eased not lifted so animals can only be moved straight to the slaughter house under very strict conditions. We cannot just move animals from field to field or cross roads so fields with sections in cannot be cleared of animals.

So, we are sorry to disappoint but it is definitely off. Here's hoping that you will return next year, keener than ever!!

Hi Kirsty,

Thanks for the info. I knew this trial was a huge undertaking and was hoping it could be saved but alas it can't be so I respect that.

Next year will be massive as everyone will want to come!

Cheers

Ian

p.s. Nice to see you as a member of TC at last

Hi Kirsty,

Without farmers and landowners we would have no sport of trials, it's as simple as that. I was brought up in the full knowledge that motorcyclists who prefer to ride in off road sports be it trials, motocross or grass track we must abide fully with what the landowner wishes and if that means no events for a while, then so be it!

Hopefully the spread of this current outbreak of foot and mouth disease will be halted faster than in 2001 and we can get farming and sport back to normal.

Disappointment is temporary when it comes to cancelled events!

To riders, follow what the ACU are directing, check with the club before you make the long trip to ensure that the event is still on.

Ever supportive of our patrons...

yours,

Big John
