This is a real hardcore trials venue - we put a few trials on the banks to give a little variety, but really it hurts to not use the streams and rivers. We've been trying to build a reputation for good honest ridable sections. The going will be tough in places, but nothing daft. Have a look at last years results to guage the severity or speak to someone who's ridden it. A good clubman who likes proper sections will love it (Expert/Inter). For those that ride the Forest Trophy Trial, you'll know the venue. For this trial though we use slightly more of it. If you remember the very first section in the Forest Trophy (we normally cal lthe dragons teeth) up the waterfall. The section that the experts rode there would be close to the Novogar section. They start lower down the stream, then continue through the yellow route. Most of the sections are around the level of the expert/inter route in the Forest Trophy Trial as the Forest Trophy tends to be slightly easier than our usual club trials due to the length of it. I've been trying to persuade Mr Beardsall to have a ride, but not sure if he's up for it this year or not. He maybe doesn't ride often enough these days? Ian may give you a better idea of how he thinks you'd get on. I get the feeling from your banter that you seem to be of similar level, but looks like you may have been a fair bit ahead of him in the Forest Trophy. It certainly wouldn't be an easy day. It's always a tough one to define the level of a clubman championship. Our sections tend to be roughly the same level all the way round, with three or four tougher ones to take marks off the top boys. That can make it a hard day out if you're just below the level of the sections - takes its toll on the arms. However, I've ridden some Novogar rounds where I have struggled (on times really struggled) where some of the sections I couldn't see a way through for my level of rider, but I look at most of our sections as possible cleans if I have a good ride. However ,if you can get Ian to ride then i would because atleast i wouldn't be last I wont be riding as you know Im in the Maldives then And if I weren't, I still wouldn't ride it as it requires more skill than I have I have 'officated' at the last 2 and they are great events run by the best club I know of in this area. Thanks for the compliment Ian, but I also have to point out that the event is run by the Mid Wales Centre ACU, so although we tend to be the gobby ones taking the credit (or flak) most of the local clubs are involved in some way, marking out, marshalling, time-keeping, regs, documentation. We even get help from some kindly souls from the Midlands centre, not to mention the observers who come from all over the place. bikespace Posted September 11, 2007 Author Report Share Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) Just spoke to the sec - up to around 60 entries so far, entries close this Sunday, well over half of the sections cleared out, and marked out. Another few days to do up there, and we're all set to go again. We should be able to get rider start times out either Monday or Tuesday, I'll put them on here and I'm fairly sure they'll be mailed out too, but programs probably be issued on the day. Anybody got any questions about anything, parking, start area, camping, fuelling etc, let me know. If i don't know I'll find out. If anybody would like to observe or help out, please let us know. More the merrier. Last year was easier, Graham Evans was secretary, he worked in a bike shop so had nothing better to do than send emails to me which I could catch up on at night. It made things more transparent by adding riders to the rider list every night, but not workable this year. This year Jeans really organised, but works shifts and don't use computers, so passing info is more difficult. She read quickly through the list tonight, and sounded like there were about 15 or 20 riders after yours. At the moment that's in the order they came in, so they'll be reversed but you should have at least 15 or 20 in front of you. It's only Tuesday so hopefully more. I'm not riding ours this year, so every time I go to mark out I'm taking my bike and trying to scrub off the slippy ones. Thinking through the sections it's not going to be too bad for an early starter, and we've tried to put a few in there which will deteriorate to even things up a little Will let you know once I've got the list sent through to me and up on the web. bikespace Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Share Posted September 23, 2007 (edited) Results for todays Novogar - was a bit slippy in places, looking like the water was going to be a problem at one point but it held off for us. Eased a few of the sections off this morning, and I think some of the entry were glad of it. I thought the winner would be on about 10-15. I was pretty amazed that Ross managed to go round on 2 marks. That was a special ride. I don't think the trial is any easier since the likes of Tom Sagar were winning it on around 12-15 marks. Time was quite tight, but the first half of the trial was running pretty slowly for some reason this year. Only a few people penalised on time, so I reckon the time limit is likely to stay the same for next year (if we get one), but we'll look at it and we're open to comments. How did it go for you? Too hard, too easy. If you're going to tell us too hard or too easy give us an idea what position you were in so we get a feel for it. No names needed, just general area.
