Majesty Unearthed

I have just purchased a Yamaha TY 250 Majesty registered SOG ***S, First registered in Birmingham (any one here know the bike) Obviously it is a Yamaha framed bike. Needs cosmetics/ chassis sorting, it runs well though. Iwill have to mothball it for a while as I have just put the house up for sale so no bikes/ mess around until we move (yes dear) . It has a TY tank and not the coffin type and there is a well faded Mick Andrews sticker on the top of the fuel tank.

I have seen a few colour schemes on them on here but what colour were they supposed to be, also using Silkolene comp 2 what mixture do I want to be using? Thanks in advance :D

PS. The bloke who sold it to me had no idea what it was, he thought it was a std TY, I didn't tell him.

Nice find

Early bikes were yellow frame and tank with white mudguards and sidepanel. Depends how fussy you want to be as regards the red tank decal - early bikes had a solid red stripe before they changed to the 'speed block' type

Personally I'd run it on Castrol TTS rather than Silkolene as it is a lot cleaner and doesn't gum up rings and exhausts. Either one should be 50:1 max though on a steel liner.

Registered in Birmingham - wonder who's it was.

Cheers Woody, it was ebay item no330163579334. Sorry dont know how to do the link thing.On reflection I dont think I will worry about the cosmetics etc just get it riding as I want etc. Otherwise if it ends up too pretty I wont want to ride it as it should be ridden. Pegs are a mile high and this one has no rear suspension at present. Did they make a tailpipe for the exhaust system to replace the Yamaha one like a fishtail affair.

Re registration, I found it in Worcester but it has been in London also.

Shirty would have made the replacement tail pipes, similar to those he did for the mono but chances of finding one would be very little. You could adapt a mono one to fit if you could find one of those which is what I did, or one of the early GasGas contact type. Only thing new you can buy is the WES tail pipe but it isn't a particularly nice shape, personal opinion though. Not sure it fits directly to the Yam system either - may need modifying as it's made to go with the WES middle box.

Andy T, I asked about all the obvious things to tell a Majesty apart from an original TY, various frame mods to raise motor which has been spoken about elsewhere on here in the past and all the boxes were ticked as well as laid down shocks etc etc, the seller thought he was selling a standard TY 250. Also the S O G thing probably applies :D

I've been running my TY250 T/S on AMSOIL SABER PROFESSIONAL at a mixture of 100-1.

As it has been designed to mix at a ratio of 100-1, it dosen't smoke at all and it runs beautifully. I would recommend AMSOIL to anyone.

And for those of you who doubt that 100-1 is enough oil for a two stroke then rest assured that I have previously run a 270cc Beta Rev 3 on the same AMSOIL for three years!

I've seen it myself. Riding buddy has run his 1976 Sherpa T on 100:1 AMSOIL for the past few years, without problem. I am not that brave. I run my 1974 Cota 247 on 60:1 Motul fully synthetic.

I have not seen Amsoil in the UK, I may be wrong?? What did Shirtys silencer achieve? Also this bike must have been an early one, is it right there are no records for production etc. Cheers.

PS. There are air fork tops fitted, but I have been advised to find a mono set of forks and wheel if I can. The forks I have feel a bit c""p.

Yes, saw that, nice buy - I did wonder if anyone knew what it was as there were no bids on it every time I looked. Classic Experts would be a good trial to debut the bike in, coming up soon - tell Pitley to take his bike this year :(

Sorry Woody I deleted the forks thing as I found it had been spoken about more than once before, and you were in on the subject as well. I have decided to fit a mono forks and wheel set as it seems the easiest option. I will be gathering the parts required as and when I find them and then sort the forks, shocks and peg position etc and take it from there.

The ironic thing is re the tail pipe the seller has a Majesty for sale with the wrong tail pipe now. Cheers :(

Yes I've seen that and did wonder why.... I've noticed that a couple of twinshock specialists have sold one or two things on ebay without knowing what they actually are

Wonder how much that Majesty is. Mate of mine was going to enquire so should find out. I'm guessing at over
