ritcrider
Any opinions or experiences? A lot of club members run Maxima 927 castor based for pre-mix.....others various synthetic's. I used to run Mobil MX2T in my 280 pro at 80:1 but Mobil has discontinued that oil. Just wondering what are the advantages (if any) to running castor based.......I do like the smell of bean oil. d. sileo
Smells good , tastes great.......Good quality 2 stroke oil, is good quality 2 stroke oil.......both variations are ok for the modern trails engines.......I run ELF at 100 to 1 with NO problems in the last ten years.... in summary , any good qaulity oil will work fine in the modern 2 stroke engine producted these days...... I prefer a full synthic for its engineered chemical properties.....my 2 cents....D
madcr500
I swear by silkolene comp-2 Synthetic. I run it in my CR500 motard (at about 35-1)and have done for about 7 years. My mate runs the same oil, but in injector form, in his KH750's (he mixes a little in with his fuel too). He built a 750 that dyno'd at 103bhp at crank. he ran it for about 30k miles and then took the engine out and stored it for about 2 years. When he stripped it down not only could you still see the crosshatch on the bores but when i wiped my finger down the bore it was still coated with silkolene from when he last ran the motor. I know there are newer oils out there but i think it will take a lot to make me change from it.
overthehill
a top tip to make gardening slightly more enjoyable is to put some castrol'R' in the lawnmower petrol (even a 4t) then you can cut the TT course in the lawn and go round in ever decreasing TT circles sorry - back to the original question - i cant tell the difference whatever oil i use in the trials bike. I did by mistake use some superunleaded petrol with octane booster that i use for my classic bike once - thought i was on a new bike I also know someone that tried their Mont on diesel as well - that doesnt work though. - eh Jeff? dfwilson
Running a castor based oil makes anyone who is behind you on the loop want to seek you out and kill you. It smells like sh^t and should only be run by serious A**holes who just like to screw with people. If you are a nice person I recommend using Motul 800 at 80:1 to 100:1 or some fully synthetic oil other than strawberry IPONE. Just my humble opinion.
