clarkp
Short of buying an '04 Rev3 with the additional mount on the mid-muffler - does anyone else have trouble with the rubber isolator shearing off or breaking? This is starting to get expensive... at $4.50 per. Maybe I should loosen the exhaust at the cylinder, tighten up the mid-muffler mount and THEN tighten the exhaust flange at the cylinder... I'm guessing I have too much mis-alignment as is.
kinell
This was a recurring problem on my 02 Beta. I cured it by fitting a new R/H subframe for the airbox, as the old one must have been twisting. Another, cheaper way of fixing the mis-aligned parts is to remove the 'speed fastener' bracket that the rubber bush screws into. Re-drill the hole on the subframe to a slightly bigger size and refit the fastener. This should allow you to move the rubber bush & fastener up, down, left or right to suit the exhaust. I also wedged the middle-box away from the frame and filled the gap with silicone sealant. This seemed to quieten the bike down as the middle-box used to vibrate against the frame. This mod also has the benefit of keeping the middle box away from the vent tube on the carb.
dave
Take the whole rubber bit off, and just use a long spout bolt and a section of tubing cut to the length of the old rubber bit, then just screw it back together. When i did mine i put the fibre washer back in and used a section of handlebar.
stuessenhigh
Hi Clark, I'm sure you're smart enough to not be doing what I was doing but I'll mention it anyway. I was getting through the rubber silent block things as well, but since I stopped picking up the bike by the exhaust its been OK. Otherwise, the other advice all sounds good to me
rev3guy
ClarkP: A few of us lads in the PNTA have had similar problems with the mid mount failure. Seems that the inner frame will bend and mis-align as a result of hard impact to the top of the seat area, picking bike up by exhaust and many more reasons. Some if us have made the trip to the hardware store and purchased a 5mm (?) bolt, rubber spacer, couple flat washers and a lock washer and have not had any problems since. Good luck you, ya know it could be worse, you could own a GG Pro...
clarkp
Kinell - I like your idea! I'm going to try to 'tweak' the header pipe a little bit to see if things line up better first, and failing that, your idea is next on the list - I like it, I like it a lot! OBTW, I did crash my brains out a couple of times this last weekend while practicing - that might have something to do with the failure - and I MAY have picked it up by the lower end of the muffler but I don't really remember too well... I'm also at a loss to explain the footpeg-shaped imprint on the back of lower thigh... jeez, I gotta stop hoisting pints during practice... Cheers! mcman56
Can someone tell me what a "spout bolt" is?
