This year Dougie did the 85 mile course at an average of 17.4 miles an hour, as usual less than 20 riders finished within an hour of fastest time, one hour slower roughly means 3 miles an hour slower, To finish in time a rider needed to do 11.5 miles an hour. I think the answer to your question is skill & bike fitness.

I was at section 38 and at that stage he was 2nd arrival, meaning he had roughly half the course with no one to pass, or get held up by either in sections or on one track moors.

This section was probably possible for me to ride, but by the time ten had passed it was very difficult indeed, Dibs got stuck for ten seconds I think and these type of delays add time and effort to those following.

Knowing the course helps as well. :guinness:

Firstly, thank you both for your replies :guinness:

But doesn't the comment above dabster support my thinking . The 'specialists' should know the course better than anyone so should therefore have an advantage shouldn't they? Watching the vids on you tube, some riders were causing big delays for riders behind them so would this then mean that if you have an early number , and you are a good rider, you have an advantage? If Dougie then went out last, he would have been far down the list on time wouldn't he?

Either way, pretty damn impressive I reckon!

A big thank you must go to the organisers and helpers at Richmond Motor Club, who should feel hugely proud of running a first class outstanding event. I'm already looking forward to next year. I don't think its much of a secret that Fujigas has expressed an interest in riding it next year. But Dougie will take some beating as his performance was breath taking. Mind you its not just about the top riders, its about all the riders from Clubman to experts and those willing to have a go that make this trial such a great event. Well done to you all.

I was just talking to Ross who was following Dougie for a short while. It got to the point where Dougie was riding more like a Speedway rider than a trials rider across the route they were on. :guinness: Pretty hairy stuff apparently :D

Are you talking yourself in to having a go next year then Cota?

John, I had a great day following the trial on my bike. Its a great event but one I know isn't for me.

I was talking to Dougie and he reckoned that he was riding as fast as you can possibly go on a trials bike, I think he had a few scary moments.

It will be great if Fujigas does get to ride next year but I still think Doug will take some beating.
