baor101
Howdy This may have been covered before ,but: Is it possible to fit a 12 volt electrical system in a TL 125. I want to fit lights, signals, horn and such to make the bike street legal. Any later model Honda parts that can be used?? Thanks Tom Tollefson, Goodwood, Ontario 1973 TL
brian r
Hi Tom and welcome. We'll look into that. Most didn't come with lights. Do you have one with a lighting coil? There will be 2 coils under the flywheel, one for ignition and the other for lights. I believe most just had the posts for the lighting coil but no coil. BTW, is your family originally from Lake Wobegon, Mn?
baor101
Hello Brian Just bought the bike from Lewisport ( http://www.lewisportusa.com/for_sale.htm ) and it is being shipped soon. Can't tell You what's inside , but it has a headlight & taillight. I was thinking along the lines of swapping the ecetrical guts from a late model 12 volt XL 125. just wondering if it would fit. the Tollefsons are old norwegian stock, imigrated to MN & ND in the 1840's , then north to Sascatchewan TT
brian r
Well, I just looked and it is a 6 volt system like you thought. It would be a lot of work to change. What's wrong with it the way it is? Click on my Honda Trials link and go to pdf's there's some good information there thanks to Jose. brian r
I just looked on Lewisport at the bike. NICE! Congratulations.
baor101
HeY Brian Your site is decent. The parts book pdf is going to be an asset for me. I don't know yet what is wrong with the original setup. It may be just fine. It seems some TL's were fitted with the lighting end of the alternator missing, just enough for the ignition coil. if that is the case on mine I'll have to do some mods. although it has a lighting kit fitted I am not sure if it works. The previous owner cannot remember ever turning the lights on. I am just making plans while waiting for the machine to arrive. frothing at the bit... Thanks Tom Tollefson, Goodwood, Ontario 1973 TL 125 looks like a nice bike i had loads of these.looks like it has correct lights that should work,if so keep them 6 volts, put on bike 12v sealed battery like modern scooters have cb4l i think it is,these can be fitted anyway round even up side down, run this battery total lost for winkers, horn, brake light.if useing mainly hand signals this battery will last for days on one charge
tlrs
tom, the pdf is for the tl125s model, yours is the tl125K. you will notice there are some differences (like the alternator...). but the kit that is mounted on this one was available with the lighting coil included, (so i presume it will be bolt inside the alternator)

I only need the signals and such to get it MOT'd. then all that bling is coming off again. I prefer hand signals and eye contact. thanks for all the replies.
