yoyo
Can anybody tell me what ages go against what engine sizes or classes for youths? I've two lads aged 9 (10 in Dec) and 7 (8 next Aug), and I'm not sure of what bikes they could ride on. I've had a mooch around on the ACU website but I can't find the info. I've just bought an aging Yam TY80 for them to get to grips with, with the idea that they can learn clutch control etc. They've both riden 50 & 80cc MX auto's before, but the boss is worried about them hurtling around a track doing MX. As I've just bought myself a 270 Beta, I was thinking that the 3 of us could go off and ride together etc. And finally, could they compete ok on the TY80 or would they need something a bit more modern to ride on? Thanks Shaun.

1rl
Hi, Minimum age for a licence is 6 and can ride a 50cc As for the other, Ages and cc are: The year in which they are 10 they can ride a maximimum of 80cc otherwise they are stuck to a 50cc I think they can still ride twinshock 80 before the year they are 10 though.... kinell
Hi, Minimum age for a licence is 6 and can ride a 50cc Cheers for that, I wonder if the ACU will place the Oset electric bikes in the same class as the 50cc bikes?
telecat
Basically the Class structure is based on the YEAR they were born in. Hence this Years classes were 2007 A Class 1990 1991 B Class 1992 1993 1994 C class 1995 1996 1997 D Class 1998 1999 2000 2001 2008 A class 1991 1992 B Class 1993 1994 1995 c Class 1996 1997 1998 D Class 1999 2000 2001 2002 Examples If you are 14 on the First of January 2008 you are B class Even if you turn 15 on the second of January 2008, hence the 15 year olds competing in B class. It does mean that A class riders who turn 17 in their last year can ride Novice class on unrestricted bikes if they so wish. However to ride "In class" the riders are restricteed to the following bike capacities. A and B class ride 125cc Maximum C Class 80cc Monoshock Maximum D class 50cc Monoshock or TY80 Twin shock

But can it be competitive on todays courses do you think..... Thanks for the responses so far - much appreciated. Shaun.

tomsdad
Hi There Your eldest lad will be in C class in 2008 & 2009. Your youngest lad will be in D class in 2008 & 2009. The TY80 will be fine in D class no problem. The lads in C class may only be aloud a max of 80 cc, but these bikes are far cry from the TY80. Full size wheels, suspension and brakes as good as your Beta and more power than 3 TY80s strapped together !!!! In this company the TY80 may be slight handicap. However up here a TY80 on the white route would be fine whatever the age of the child. Enjoy it, they grow up fast. Mike.
