The Long Way Down

Is it just me, but Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's new series the Long Way Down, is incredibly boring. Whilst their first series was very good, as was the book, this new adventure is quite simply dull, tedious and repetetive, a bit like the riders. Charlie Boorman's claim to fame is he has acted in numerous films, funnily enough directed by his Daddy and also competed in the Lisbon - Dakar race.

You would have thought the adventure of taking two BMW GS bikes from John O Groats to Cape Town would be exciting, instead we are served up with the same boring old problems they have with border crossings, carnets, officials etc etc etc.

The riders (actor luvvies) are not exactly doing it all on there own either , having an extensive support team including security advisors, medics, fixers in every country and no doubt a specialist team advising on product placement.

Its not like when Ted Simon did it in the 1970's, alone on this Truimph.

Unless they get kidnapped by Somalian Warlords or some militia and forced to ride through a mine field, then I for one won't be tuning in next Sunday.

Bring back Heartbeat.....

Couldn't agree more, somehow lacks the adventure of Long Way Round. Two blokes get 3 months off work, free bikes, all the nause of arranging travel done by somebody else and all they seem to do is bloody moan. Will probably still watch as there is not much else on Sundays.

Agree Ted Simon (Jupiter's Travels) is way better, also I used to enjoy Dan Walsh's stuff in Bike Mag - example here: Dan Walsh article

Come on guys; you are probably the same people that scream and shout about no motorcycling on the TV, then when you get some.....

.

.

.

You moan :P

Not a patch on ''Long Way Round'' but better than ''the Soaps'' :D

If you don't like it don't watch it :D

Yes, I can't help wondering.... even with all that back-up,that the world famous,multi-millionaire Ewan Kenobi stands out as a juicy kidnapp target .

I mean just a bit of string tied between two trees and you've caught yersel a gold pension.

Does anyone know if his planned route will come through Tyneside? :D

Don't do soaps, but just cause there isn't much motorcycling on TV doesn't mean I have to watch 2 upper class luvvie toffs poncing around.

You can imagine it.

'At times things got incredible rough, on leaving Khartoum we suddenly realised we were running dangerously low on foie gras and quail eggs and the temperature of the Bolly was rising to slightly above chilled.'

As regards 3 months off work, what works that? One of Daddies films? Or having to attend award ceremonies and having lunch at the Ivy.

Perhaps get Boorman to ride the Scott, now that would be a challenge for him and to his credit he did make an attempt at the Lisbon - Dakkar Rally. Which I understand he was forced to abandon early due to his Daddy getting him a walk in part on The Bill.

If they were riding a couple of 4RT's in ''Middlebrough FC'' shirts would that make a difference :D

I do think the BMW R 1200 GS Adventurers are cool, its the only good thing in the programme. I would probably watch a few more episodes if they were riding 4RT's and wearing a Boro shirts. They wouldn't need to SAS minders then.

Gizza, have you joined the LWD fan club, you can purchase the DVD, book and t shirt. There all the rage at Groucho's dahling.

I tell you what after reading the link to the Dan Walsh article, now that would make a good series, especially the bit about Dick loving Jane and Jane loving................lets not go there.
