Fork Oil Change

Can any of you good fellows tell me how much oil and what grade should go in my 01 315r forks? I'm on the heavy side (15.5 stone), complete novice....

I'm assuming I check the level with the springs out and forks collapsed, is this right? If so, can anyone also tell me the correct level?

Cheers

Rob

I've not actually done the job yet as I've now got two conflicting bits of info....

Obviously, I've got the link that 315rr gave me, but I've also been told summat different by someone I trust completely which suggest an equal amount of oil in both legs, contrary to the link...

So, whilst I'm not physically able to do the job at the moment I'm going to keep gathering info. I wonder if equal oil levels is the real world fix and unequal levels as per the link is the factory ideal?

Ok if you look at your fork legs and or stripped them you would find each leg is constructed differently, the right leg has a damping set up only with no spring, the left leg is preload only with spring hence the different oil levels. Most bikes have two legs with the same internals, trials machines don't so your friend is wrong in this case but right for nearly all others.

these are the easiest forks i have ever worked on except maybe the ohlins track forks i have on another bike. you do not have to strip them completely to change the oil, i will email anyone one proper instructions if they need them, just let me know.

Cheers bud, very kind. I'll take that email ,if I may... pm on its way.

I've done a longer, older search since and I've found the same contradictory info in a few posts here. (going back a bit mind). Plus the fella who told me equal levels is actually a trials specialist.....

Anyhoo..... I will measure what comes out too, just out of curiosity..

Thanks for the reply :D
