AtomAnt,yes I should just do the training but I have always towed the party line as the company calls it and its beginning to get on my nerves.As does everthing else,like the general cost of living and the way we Brit's do nothing and just bite the bullet.So this is my one man stand on something I feel is an injustice.

Whilst I understand where you are coming from here, I would suggest you don't do anything that would negatively affect your current situation and your future. I would personally do the training then negotiate and if you put your case across effectively, you may make some headway. Failing that, you would now be in a stronger employable position and that is something that you may need.

I think that every employee needs to constantly update their skills if they want to be employable in the future. Jobs for life are a thing of the past.

I agree with the other stuff too. We all moan about it but how can you get anything done? where can we unite and fight it?

Getting rid of this damn labour government has got to be step 1 :banana2:

well well look's like your talking yourself straight into the job centre.Business is tough out there at the moment for every one,company's are letting people go to save money.It might look like the rest of us are bending over but we're not,we're just seeing what's real.

I think as long as you have enough money to pay the bill's and have enough left to take your bike out at the weekend your doing well for yourself at the moment.

However if you want the full fruit's of your work then go it alone,then your know how tough life can really get.

I'm an employee. I see salaries and the question 'what am i worth' easily answered. that is to say i took the job on in the first place so i can't complain. I can't stand employees who are 'victims' and everyone else is wrong that attitude s4cks. I have worked in many different industries and have resigned on a couple of occations because the extra work/duties that were not in my original job discription were bestowed upon me for no extra money. But...managers have the right to screw as much work out of me as they can and if they didn't then they're not doing there jobs. I've never asked an employer for extra money they pay me what they think i'm worth and i respect them for this. However do they know how to manage employes expectations of them? Do they listen to the employees, some shout (employee) others are quiet and if they managed better by interacting more then staff would not leave because they would be aware of the problems around them before they happen. Often managers sit in there ivory towels and bark commands, have zero respect for there most valued asset there employees and then they wonder why no one gives a s4it about them or the company. The worst thing of all is 'money' and its all to common to find a pay rise is offered when and noticed to quit is handed in, i think this is an insult to an employee and have I left a company once because this practise was addobted regular by the management.

In my line of work i'm customer facing, i manage my work and enjoy my new career and would take any training offered. If i worked for a company for 18years i'd like to think even if i decided the managment route were not for me some respect from the managers and a better understanding from them to me on what my goals/ambitions are within the company has been noted. some individuals are 'not' born leaders and others are (i'm not) and managers should see there employees as valued assets rather than a nother body working at a desk or machine.

on a lighter note, every year i change my working moto and for 2007 its 'ask not what your company can do for you but what you can do for your company!'. :banana2:

bilco,I think I have you sussed.I have always wondered if time travel was possible and what I am thinking is that back in 1880 you invented a Time Machine and selected 2007 as one of the years you would like to visit(should have chosen the seventie's)you now find yourself in a period which is hard to understand,your quote:I think as long as you have enough money to pay the bill's and have enough left to take your bike out at the weekend your doing well for yourself at the moment.Its not quite correct for this period.So if your having problems with your Time Machine and it needs fixing I would be more than happy to try and help you fix it.

We've recently been through a round of redundancies, but then we have FAR too many tiers of middle management who add absolutely zero value. We've also been through a fair bit of turmoil internally with processes and procedures, change etc. That has resulted in the head-hunters targeting us and a not-insignificant number of people leaving. I've had the calls from the head-hunters, but I'm perfectly happy where I am and have no intention of moving. I'm pretty much my own boss and remote from HQ so away from all the corporate bollocks and bitching.

Today was my birthday. I neither wanted or expected any mention of it at work, but got an email this morning from my bosses boss wishing me a happy birthday then later my bosses, bosses boss phoned me - three tiers of management up from lowly me (I thought I was in trouble when he said who it was!) purely to wish me a happy birthday. I asked if management were notified of staff birthdays and he said no. He made it his business to find out and phone people. It was a simple gesture, but one I was genuinelly impressed with, bearing in mind this guy has responsibility for the whole of Northern Europe.

We have our own Scottish office Christmas do. We don't go to the corporate one. Last year I drove there and drove home as it's in Edinburgh and I...well don't live in Edinburgh. I do remember going to the toilet a lot, but it was purely down to the amount of mineral water consumed. :banana2:

Hi Andy,I hope you had a happy Birthday yesterday,if my Boss phoned me to wish me a happy Birthday I would be worried,if my Bosses Boss phoned to wish me a happy Birthday I dont think I would ever return to work,the guy wears make up.(he don't know we know,several of us noticed traces of mascara around his eyes)

PS. I think the only reason they know when your birthday is,is because they have been checking employee details to see who's next on the hit list.
