tdm900
I'm thinking of freshening up my tyz with a new set of rings. Have any of you done this recently? The reason I ask is the cost of the bits, especially if when I pull it down I find it needs a piston. I am assuming the bits fron the scorpa sy will be a direct fit, but how does their price compare to the tyz at : piston= Edited January 7, 2008 by TDM900
straycollie2
As a Scorpa owner I tend to find that engine spares ordered from a Yamaha dealer are cheaper than their Scorpa equivalents, but I'm afraid that I don't have prices to hand. craig10
If you can, don't split the head from the barrel, the head gasket costs about
kevin j
I have learned with the older stuff to have all parts in hand before teardown. often, what seems routine maintenance hits a snag because a part is NLA from the dealers. For example, I have heard that TY350 mono Z spokes, and piston rings are NLA. Since the bore is chrome, rings have to be casit iron. Most aftermarket (Wiseco etc) generic rings are chromed, for cast iron bores.... Thankfully I have a few spares for my lifetime.... I guess the head gasket quoted is an example- that one seems incredible.... kcj
woody
Why not ask Nigel Birkett who knows Yamahas like the back of his hand, is the Scorpa importer too and has stocks of spares for both. He is an honest bloke and won't rip you off.
hrc1
When I worked on a TYZ recently, I checked with Scorpa - and Yamaha prices were the same........Obviously they are all Yam bits really!
