austini
My son has just taken delivery of a shiney new 270 and boys being boys didn't check the bike over thourghly before starting the bike. An item about 1cm sq and looking like a piece of brillo pad (wire wool) covered in Araldite (glue) was lurking in the air filter, it proceeded into the carby and jamed under the slide with obvious results. The poor bike revved its tits off and wouldn
paul w
not good i agree, but i worked in the bike trade in the late 80s early 90s and stories like this are not uncommon, like the time a kmx 200 was being preped for sale, it would not start, after much searching we found the engine had been built without a LH crank seal ! hope the burn heals quickly. paul. honda_tlr
How long did it take for it to die using the hand over the exhaust method ? And did he have gloves on
sectionone
Even if it's brand new, I wouldn't assume it's ready to ride. My GG came with the airbox boot slightly off the carb letting in dirty air.

I suppose if and engine is pumping out that many rpm it can jump the kill switch, i've seem it happen a few times at trials, "Very Scary!!!!" I saw this happen yesterday. Bike cartwheeled down a bank and landed hard on the bars (and on top of the unfortunate rider!) on the throttle side with the engine wide open. The impact obviously damaged the throttle because it wouldn't move and the kill switch did nothing. In this case, someone simply grabbed the throttle cable and ripped it out of the housing. moulder75
I brought a brand new Sherco and after 10 minutes riding it would not run due to a piece of plastic holding the carb slide open. After a few other faults I decided to get rid of it and buy a Beta. After the SSDT and the Scott its still fine and has never let me down. It works a treat but trying to keep your eyes on the cover and small plastic wheel as they ping off in two opposite directions is not quite so easy. I did it in a fast flowing Scottish beck and only managed to find the plastic wheel
