How Much Would You Pay To Ride?

Back in my days of club secretary-ship, we found there was a common baseline of entry fees, as there is now, which clubs could adhere to and cover costs (our intention was not to make a profit). Riders got used to there being a level of entry fees which was more or less the same for whatever grade of trial they were entering. I think it's understandable if riders baulk at a sudden hike in fees by a particular club if the reason is not made clear.

I know we are not in the UK but it's worth a look for comparison purposes, we pay the equivalent of approx 6 pounds for a club trial and 12 pounds per day for a National, here in sunny NZ. This covers our permit fees and beer for the farmer. Our entries are small for club trials, typically from 15 to 40 riders and about 50 in Nationals.

look at a football analogy

i follow a non league team and we pay about 3 quid a game to watch we also watch bradford city occasionally at 13 quid but wont pay 17 to watch rochdale which is only 2 mile away we would and have paid 28 quid to watch man utd the most i've paid was 75 at the old wembley and i would have paid 10 times that if i'd had to to see bradford win again

a tenner seems fair for club trials my club make a small profit each year at that for a top class trial and venue i might pay 25 occasionally if asked but as an average i'll happily stick my tenner in for 4 laps of a field or 4 laps of the perfect venue as a happy average

i am said father with three kids and i would be willing to pay say fifteen to twenty pounds for a really good venue or for my club to purchase some land for practice and competitions, but if clubs charge more than the usual then they need to explained why

I would be quite happy to pay double the usual entry fee if it helped clubs to safeguard trials venues. We have lost practice venues such as Addingham moorside and Wycollar around here which makes me think that the actual events will be next to go!

This is probably a dumb question about the 14 days (or is it 28 days) ruling: -

If places like Addingham have 5 or 6 trials a year, can the venue open for practice the other 8 or 9 days?

Thanks guys this is good feedback. We don't want to pay more than we have to but there comes a time when I'm afraid a hike in entry fees will be necessary if we want to keep long-standing venues available. At the moment the going rate in our neck of the woods is

sooner or later trials will have to come into the real world were land is concerned, i know of a least 5 landowners in the last year that will not run another trial on there land because clubs , organizers will not pay the going rate motocross and enduro clubs all pay between
