nick collier
Hi Gang. I have had my 1993 TY250 Pinky for about 2 years. I have never trialled before, and am just learning the basics. As I get better, I have started to find things that could be improved on the bike. The main thing is that it has always been slow to return to a normal idle after the throttle is opened. For an idea, if i blip the throttle for about 1/2 a second, the engine takes about 4 seconds to get back to idle. Is this normal? I would prefer a quicker response and return, to allow me to use the engine braking instead of the rear brake. I have tried to tweak the carb screws, but always seem to end up with a high idle speed or stalling! Also, I don't wantto end up screwing(!!) the mixture and making things worse. Any ideas? Or are they all just like this? Nick
tt5th
Mine is very much the same I'm afraid. I think its due to the big heavy flywheel although i'm not 100% I did wonder if it could be running lean so i adjusted the float height. All i got was a black spark plug so I put it back to stock! brian r
Look for a vacuum leak.
kevin j
theyhave a very heavy flywheel, but 4 secs is toomuch. flywheel effect is a second or two. I agree, look for vacuum leak. spray water, use wd40, or propane from and UNLIT soldering torch bottle. when you find the leak point engine soudn will change. If it is alternator or crank side seals, this doesn't work of coruse, but for carb boots, manifold, etc works well. k
troutrader1
Glad to see this post, Every ty250 mono engined bike that I have ridden or heard does exactly this.. also it seams that they are a bit smokey at idle - 1/8 throttle? Maybe they are rich on idle, I have tried mixture screw with little change? Has anyone tried a Mikuni on TY mono?
brian r
What did they come with?
troutrader1
The standard one on all that I have seen is 28mm TK. I filed the slide cutaway too 3mm "2.5mm"standard and tuned air mixture as best I could and seems to be better than most.
