tombo46 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Share Posted March 4, 2008 Ive done about 12 hours riding on my new bike and ive opened up the airbox and its a little bit dirty (not alot) and there is a little bit of water welling up in the bottom of the airbox, ive got a sponge on order to collect said water to stop is sloshing around the airbox. while the airbox is off ive also taken the carb off to give it a clean, no visible dirt anywhere in any of the jets or the float bowl, does this mean it was unnessisary to clean the carb out? for the last couple of hours of my last ride the bike started making a knocking noise on the top end, only very slight but it was there, similar to the noise you get when you start to run out of fuel if you know what I mean, the noise was more pronounced as the engine ran down from high to low revs. could this have something to do with the air filter being a little bit dirty and thus stopping the mixture from being right? jam Posted March 4, 2008 Report Share Posted March 4, 2008 The mixture isn't right, its running too weak, 3.5 turns out as its a fuel screw not air. Is it a uk bike? if this doesn't cure it then you need to re-jet it as its got the wrong one in, it may have the std ones it to get thro the emmisions. tombo46 Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2008 It was running perfect for the first 10 hours so I think the jetting is right, theres a spare jet in the bottom fork clamp (god knows why!?), might be a different size. jimw Posted March 4, 2008 Report Share Posted March 4, 2008 Hi, Does sound like it is running weak - I had similar problem with my beta especially in winter when it runs weaker anyway - went up a pilot jet size and raised the needle 1 notch - sorted it. 2kracing Posted March 4, 2008 Report Share Posted March 4, 2008 My Raga got a knock a couple of times till I fount that the gas tank vent tube was getting pluged in the one way valve. I replaced it and have had no more problems. It might be worth a try to just pull the vent tube off the gas cap and take it for a ride. peterb Posted March 6, 2008 Report Share Posted March 6, 2008 Hi Tom, I can't remember if your bike was Raga or std 300. If a Raga 300, then the factory settings are too lean with a Keihin carb, go with a 126 main jet and a GJH needle, bottom notch, also a smaller pilot jet, try a 40 as they were set up too rich on the low end. If a std bike with DellOrto, then, I don't know what jets are supplied for 2008 so can't really help. Usually the DellOrto carbs were always sent out a little on the rich side with a 118 main like Jon mentioned. Have a look at the needle clip position which should be at the second to bottom position. Also, it is likely (if it is a DellOrto) that the float height is not quite correct, take off the float bowl, tip up the carb and check to see if the brass float arms are parallel to the bowl mating face on the body - I think the measurement is 18.5mm but a visual will suffice. All the best Tom If its a brand new bike that you have only used for 12 hours, any reason not to take it back to your dealer to get it sorted out?
