How Often Do You/should You Clean Your Carb/airbox Out?

When I had a Gas Gas I used to clean the filter after very trial as a rule. The carb every two or three events and the air box a couple of times a year.

The Scorpa carb doesn't get quite as dirty, so I do it less often but always clean the air box at the same time as it's off anyway.

Dust in the carb will block up the jets and cause the bike to run badly, (or not at all) it will also wear the moving parts and cause increased wear to the engine.

How often do you/should you clean your carb/airbox out? also, what effects with a dirty carb/air filter have on an engine?

All the best

Tom

Nice to see you are now riding the bling machine. Same advice as per Scorpa3. I have found that sealing the airbox lid with tape where it joins the air box stops most crud, but I suspect it would not be in keeping with other bling.

aye, thats where most of the crap seems to get in, doesnt bother me too much puting a bit of tape on it, starting to look old now anyway hehe.

plus I took plenty of pictures beforehand...

I wonder if it would be possible to clean the carb while its still inbetween the airbox and cylinder?

could just undo the slide, pop it out and take the float bowl off and give it all a blast with compressed air.

would the carb rotate of you loosened the jubilee clips off?

I love to work on bikes but ive never got time! always trying to find shortcuts so I can get more riding in hehe.

Compressed air usually works but sometimes a piece of grit will restrict a jet and a very fine wire is the only way to dislodge it.
