timerider Posted March 5, 2008 Report Share Posted March 5, 2008 Hi everyone, i`m after some advice on getting the right size headset bearings for my gas gas txt 250 (1999). I ordered a headset kit from a bearing company and was told it would fit my bike but alas it does not. The kit i got is a cup/cone taper roller bearing kit and i was told my frame should measure 42mm and the stem should be 20mm but the stem on my forks (which are gas gas ones) is only about 17mm. Can anyone shed any light on this and if possible does anyone know the correct sizes or even a code number for the correct bearings. John, I think they gave you the bearing for the later model tripleclamp with the aluminum stem (#BT280210008, "32004X" bearing, ID 19.95mm, OD 41.98mm) but you have the steel 17mm stem (the tripleclamp looks exactly the same) and I think the GasGas number on that is probably #C140100 but I don't know the standard bearing number for it.
