vaughan
Hi, I have a TY 250 series 3 1978, can someone tell me if the Mikuni vm 24 is the right carb for my bike and what jet size, needle settings are recommended. Cheers, Frankie.
feetupfun
Frankie your 1978 Ty250 when standard had a 26mm venturi carby made by Mikuni for Yamaha. It is quite different to an off-the-shelf Mikuni VM. If you want to replace the carby, there are many you can choose from including a modern flat slide type. The cheapest option would be to get a standard TY250 carby second hand. Parts are still available for them. Another would be to get a new 26mm VM Mikuni. B&J Racing sells them prejetted to suit the TY250 twinshock. Edited March 17, 2008 by feetupfun
tony283
Your best bet, and cheapest is a VM 26, standard settings will be about 150 main and 35 pilot, and a 2 slide. If you fit new reeds you may need to alter the the jetting by one size, likewise you may need to alter them if you are using a podded cleaner. Also if you are still on a posilube system the new VM 26 does not have an oil inlet from the pump. tony
