montesaman
Hello USA, please can you help me? I'm likely to be moving to NYC/Stamford in the next few months for a 2 year placement with work - is there any chance of any trials riding (clubs, competitions etc) within a realistic travelling distance? I could potentially live on the outskirts of NYC or Stamford as I will be commuting to Stamford for work. Please please help! Links to trials clubs and venues would really help so I can look at a map? If not, is there any cyclo trials action in that area? (competitions?) Many thanks! biffsgasgas
Your centrally located between several differnt clubs being in the nyc area. No organization is really in the ny metro that i know of however your close to several differnet organizations. http://members.dmcom.net/~3dtrials/ This is 3d of eastern new york but upstate from where you are at. The catskill mountains has a great event about an hour or two from you. http://newenglandtrials.org/ These guys ride all over the new england region (new york, mass, conneticut, vermont, new hampshire) Some of the events in conneticut would not be too bad. http://www.durtydabbers.com/ These guys ride in the district six pennsylvania area. I couldnt find their schedule but for the durtydabbers are a great bunch and will be able to help you out. The next two places closest from these are northern virginia http://www.nvtr.org/ About a 5 hour drive or western new york district 4 also about a 5 hour drive from the city. http://www.d4trials.50megs.com/ You might be able to find a huge following of trials bicycles in the nyc area but not much on the motorcycle end. Long island used to have a crew but land is sparce out there. --Biff

montesaman
Thanks a lot guys - I will have to study all of this! I imagine with the expanse of the country generally it's normal to travel much greater distances for competitions? what would be an avereage? (2-3 hrs?). UK is so realtively small that for local events you rarely have to travel more than an hour - guess we're very lucky! cheers
rick1
There are a couple of New England Trials Association (http://www.newenglandtrials.org) events that are in the 2-3 hour range from where you will be (Meriden, CT, Brimfield, MA and Northville, NY just under 2 hours). A few others will be in the 3 hour range. Not bad considering my closest NETA event is 4 hours. There are also events in Western, NY that may be a bit further to drive too. dan williams
Stamford is within 60 miles of Meriden Motorcycle Club as the crow flies. Slightly further as the horse flies. (sorry can't resist a Marx brothers reference). Meriden is one of the most active clubs in New England and has some great terrain. They will be holding the first event of the 2008 NETA season April 6th. This is the club that 10 time US champion Geoff Aaron came out of. The NETA page has a Google earth/Google maps link if you want a graphic of where the NETA events take place. http://www.newenglandtrials.org/
