jon v8
Evening all, managed to blow a fork seal at the Bath trial today.I'll get some new ones on order from Hirsts in the morning but I wondered if anyone has any views on what is the best grade of oil for the forks - I "load" the bike with a slender 14st ! My first ride of the A route in the Bath trials excellent trial, just looked at the results, they make interesting reading.(not mine)BTW what happened to Maj man 340 ? andy m
majman has had the boot. Read the ACU bashing thread. He was sussed out. Sorry I can't help with the fork oil query.
tony283
j I use 150cc per leg of SAE 10, also 14st it works well unless your springs are shot. Tony
jon v8
Thanks for that, the new seals arrived yesterday, just need to pickup some oil - I'll give the 10w a try. What do you use in the gearbox ? I think I may have mentioned this before but I currently have ATF in there and its not good, before I had 10w/30 synthetic car engine oil which worked well.If there is a hot tip I'd give it a go,cheers Jon. tony283
I'm assuming we are talking Yams here? Most TY's have a tendency to go "stale" in the clutch department and usually if they have been standing for a long time, or the corks have dried out, they will not work at all until the engine heats up and he clutch is fully lubricated. ATF or Dextron is a good clutch lubricant, but once the clutch is working well swop back to the 10-30 and don't overfill. Somtimes you may be better putting new plates in and remember the offset sequence to give a smooth operation. Tony
jon v8
Yes,Ty250 twinshock, the clutch is in good condition and regularly used for the two years I have owned it.Think I'll get it warm, drain it and go back to the 10w/30.Perhaps change it a couple of times in a row.
