Carb Clarification 2/4 Stroke Needle

Hi, in a previous listing I saw reference to the difference offered with amal carbs of a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke needle. On tinkering today, dont know why as runs like a hamsters heart, albiet if hamsters suffer that vibration at low revs i dont think they could walk straight, i noticed that needle has 1 identifying groove above the clip setting grooves. In Rupert Ratios book this identifies it as a 2 stroke needle (4 stroke 2 identifying grooves). Someone mentioned that the 2 stroke needle is shorter, would this meam or explain C15 with 622-301 running rich not getting the metering of the longer needle at higher revs or am I looking at worn parts anyway. Only info I can get on 64 engine suggests they were fitted with monobloc so if anyone can advise needle/jets and whether a chrome slide is an advantage it would be much appreciated. Also, small thing but if i have oil stain around kickstart and gearlever shafts on a distributor model is it due to case holding too much oil or can oil just creep along these shafts after use. Need to know whether to buy a gasket and allen keys to find out. Any help appreciated. rgds nigel
