Hi all,

Recently bought the bike, but having clutch problems.

Have stripped it down to find some monkey has put different size springs in along with an extra clutch plate!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have replaced the clutch pack, but no one has any clutch springs in stock.

So a couple of questions.

Does anyone know what the free length of JT250 clutch springs should be?

Can I use springs from another make/model?

Grateful for any help as I've not got to ride the bike properly yet.

Hi there,

I just pulled a spring out from a 1995 330 motor, spring free length is 37mm, wire diameter is 2mm. The clutch action on these older bikes was always pretty heavy (compared to the later PRO's) I did experiment with using 4 of the 6 springs, about 13 years ago. This worked ok in sections but the clutch started to slip on 4th gear blasts.

Bye, PeterB.

Thank PeterB.

I did eventually get some new onews from the importer.

Checked these and they were 39.5mm, which is 2.5mm longer than those that came out.

Clutch action doesn't seem too heavy, but not tried any newer bikes and new to this I can only go on previous road bikes.

Thank the lord it's not like my old Ducati 750. I ended up with my left forearm twice the size on my right.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Tazman,

I know what you mean about those Duke's, you needed an arm like Arnie's to pull in those clutches. Most riding in sections is performed with the use of the clutch these days, you'll probably notice a finger hovering over the clutch lever on most riders so an easy action is almost mandatory.

Bye, PeterB.
