john b
Hi I've just bought a 1975 Montesa 172 for renovation. Any advice on the best (cheapest) place for spares (gaskets / seals / bearings etc etc) cheers John
feetupfun
(USA) http://www.southwestmontesa.com/ (UK) http://www.inmotiontrials.com/ Ball bearings can usually be sourced from local bearing suppliers. You will find that most of the bearings are off-the-shelf.

davieboy
I had one of these a few years ago.The kickstart shaft had snapped and I got it cheap. I then realised why it was cheap,I could not find one anywhere and it is a common problem I am told. It was a nice little bike, very light. swooshdave
Is it a 172 or 173? I always thought they were 173cc.
vintagecota
They're called 172s but are really 156cc. Did you get rid of it Davieboy? I've got a few kick shafts left, but they're not real cheap...

john b
Thanks for all the replies - lots of useful info ! I think there has been a problem at some point with the kickstart shaft, as its been milled square, and a square section bottom welded to the Montesa kickstart. Sounds like a bit of a bodge job, but it's been very well done ! Am I right in presuming everything is the same as the 123, except the fact it's got a larger barrell and piston to 156cc? Looking forward to getting it sorted..... Edited June 13, 2008 by John B
