Betor Shock Settings

Hi,

Has anyone any advice on what settings to use on the betor rear shocks on my Fantic 200, I have a set of 40lb and 50lb springs and have tried moving the preload ring which not only makes the suspension firmer but also makes the steering quicker when the ring is raised.

I weigh about 14 stones , what settings are other twinshock riders using?

I would have thought 40lb springs would be ok.

The preload ring does just that increase the preload. Doesnt affect the spring rate just applies a pre load to the spring. If the shock bottom out then you will need to use 50lb springs.

The reason the steering "feels" quicker is with more pre load the rear wi be slightly higher as the springs are already loaded thereby having the effect of not allowing the rear to squat and then the forks are effectively steeper angle than if the rear was squatting under your load.

If the 40lb springs dont bottom out then use those.

Thanks for the reply, the 40lb springs do not seem to bottom out so I will carry on using those, I think I just need to find the right position for the ring to preload the spring. I was surprised that one position would make it feel different.

If you are not bottoming out, then the spring rate is probably OK. To get the preload right, set the ring so that with no rider aboard, the suspension will almost top out ie it settles with the shockies about 5mm from being fully extended.

I am a little bit surprised that you at 14 stone are not bottoming out Betors with 40lb springs. I have 50lb springs on a set of Betors on a TY250 and also weigh about 14 stone and do bottom them out regularly on big landings. I would have thought a Fantic having more leverage on the shockies would have been even more prone to bottoming out.

I have 40lb springs on the James and am also 15st but i ont have a problem with bottoming out either.

Is the TY heavier than a Fantic or a James ?

Dunno just a thought.
