sherpa
2005 200cc GG clutch is dragging. We have rebuilt the master cylinder, and replaced clutch as recommended by the dealer. No change, still drags like before. Don't understand, everything was fine then one day after about a half an hour of ridding it just started to drag. Now the bike wants to start walking away as soon as you put it in gear. Any ideas, please!!
ridgrunr
What oil are you running? My GG321 and my son's GG250 clutches would drag if we used the wrong oil. Some oils are really bad for the clutch plates as they make the fiber plates swell. We had pretty good luck with ATF, but still got some dragging. We finally went to Maxima Lite 75 wt transmission fluid. No more clutch drag problems.
laser1
AJP dosent always do a good job at cleaning out all of the metal filings after machining the master cylinders and they can destroy seals /clog vent holes. - I would consider swaping out the master for another as well as flushing the whole system. - BTW: good time to switch to DOT 5. Had a buddy that went through a couple of rebuilds before figuring this out. Also - make sure you have plenty of lever free play.
peterb
Hello sherpa (Tenzing!), A dragging clutch can be the result of a number of problems, master cylinder, as described by laser1, slave seals leaking, water in the gearbox oil causing the plates to swell, wrong gearbox oil (or contaminated oil caused by a leaking water pump seal) and swollen fibre plates. For 2005, the clutch actuation fluid was changed to mineral oil from hydraulic oil, have you been topping up with the correct fluid? Was the seal kit correct for mineral oil? Use an ATF oil rated to Dexron III in the gearbox. Check the clutch pack height with a caliper, should be 9.75 - 9.85mm, more importantly check the clutch finger actuation height (with the bike laid over to the left) should be a minimum of 17mm measured to the clutch centre. My guess is the slave seals are passing and maybe there is mineral oil mixed with Hydraulic oil. Bye, PeterB.
