mark1161
My pal has just bought an '02 290 and it wants to kick back quite violently when he's trying to start it, now, whilst this is quite funny for the rest of us watching, he's wondering how to sort it - anyone got any ideas ? I was thinking that we should be looking at the timing as a first port of call...... Edited June 9, 2008 by mark1161
godzilla
The best way is to put two base gaskets on. my 02 290 was the same..
daggs888
It will be the timing ... retard the flywheel (you will need the specialist tool to do this).
dabomb
It IS the timing.Retard the backplate a couple milimeters (at the outside edge),not sure which direction to go.Check the sherco website.
copemech
I seem to recall the '02 having the most advanced factory setting at around 3mm btdc on the piston. One could easily move the backing plate 6-8mm counter on one of these without problem I would think! I never owned a '02, just a '01 and '03. But I did ride one from new. First thing I noticed was the kickback and easy stalling, but ran like a bandit!
