brents
Hi all, Loving the site already, so much good info! I started riding off road bikes when i was 6 (mainly scramblers and enduro style bikes). I stopped riding when i was around 15/16 and i am now 22. The one style of bike i've always loved and wanted to try is trials...yet i've never had the chance Until now I've got between 1100 and 1500 pound to spend on a decent trials bike that is going to be used for fun in woods and local trails. I have always loved the gas gas bikes and have been looking at the txt 250. WOuld this be a good trials bike to start on? The biggest bike i have been on before is 200cc. I'm open to other bikes like a sherco & beta etc. Cheers guys p.s. im 11 stone if that is going to make a bi difference on what bike to get. ruffrider
Welcome Brents, You'll probably find lots of similar posts on here about 'which bike should I buy'. People always get the basically the same reponse ... it's really personal preference. There's a hair's whisker between the bikes in performance/reliability/running costs etc. So, it's just down to the bike you prefer. At 11 stone I'd say you could get away with a 125 but a 200 would be better. As for availability and resale value I'd probably go for a 250. At entry level I believe bigger than 250 would be a handful and not allow you to enjoy the riding. Best bet it to blag a ride on a selection of bikes and see which you prefer. Hope this helps. betabro
IMHO, A 200 would be good for learning and you could do most sections on it with some skills. The 250's and up, just need a bit more respect with the right hand. They'll break traction easier and launch with a bit more vigour. Meaning your skills don't have to be as good, as you can get away with using more power and less body. I got a 250 Beta and had only ridden farm (MX80, XR100, XR200 and currently a DRZ) and road bikes (RD250LC, GPZ900) before that. Nothing with heaps of power. I love every second on my Beta, glad I didn't go for a 270 - 290cc trails weapons though. See if you can ride a few before the final decision. Cheers Kem
