oldyellowdog
Hello all! Been away and off line for a bit and finally got another trials bike, a 1978 model 199 Sherpa! bike runs great but is a bit cosmetically challenged right now. Has new red fenders and blue side panels from Miller, I believe. Tank is original and faded - may try some of that fancy new plastic paint on it...... anyway, this is the first trials bike I have owned, and I've had about all of them, that has the shifter AND rear brake pedal on the right! Looks like a dirt tracker! If memory serves, the bikes came equipped with a spindle on both sides.I found the left side spindle - covered with a plastic cup. I read an old dirt bike mag that said the bike's left shift setup was not great as you were limited to shift pedal angle.... looks to be true. I may go ahead and get a brake pedal for the left side as the cable setup for a right brake looks like a rube goldberg design. Does Miller have a left side brake kit? Brian Robison: you still out there? You graciously sent me a free base gasket for a Honda Reflex a couple years back..... Look forward to visiting this site again. peterb
Hi Brian, Just noticed this didn't get an answer. The LHS gear change was never in a brilliant spot on the Bultaco, too low to the ground and the chain would grind it's way through the gear lever mount. Stay with the RHS gear lever, Sammy Miller does have a LHS rear brake assy, fits straight on and has a brake rod that I think was just a little short, but still worked. Good bikes these. Bye, PeterB.
