ty250nl Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Share Posted July 16, 2008 The engine is heavy, this makes it a bit harder to lift the front. This RCR Guzzi Special was build in the 70's in Northern Italy by a Guzzi specialist. I bought it last year through an Italian friend who lives near him in the mountains. The internal gearing has been altered, the first gear is very short and very strong. The bike reacts like a twostroke, with very prompt reaction on the gas. The rest of the engine has been changed also, crank, piston, cilinder etc. The frame is completely SWM, with some small adjustments. It runs great and starts first or second kick. I compete in the Twinshock class, since the bike doesn't meet the Pre'65 rules. My Italian friend is having himself build his own Stornello special by this specialist, in the original frame (with some enforcements), completely Pre'65 legal. Kind regards. What is the bikes capacity, is it 160 cc standard or enlarged? My bike was build in the 80's, not the 70's. The SWM basics are of a 1981/1982 model. Kind regards, Arie. trialstorm Posted September 1, 2008 Report Share Posted September 1, 2008 Hi, I'm the builder/owner of the stornello trials showed by Martin; just to provide a short answer to the last post: -the bike is all-made by alluminium and titanium alloys -the weight (w/o gas only) is 71 kg -the engine is 249.5 cc -the forks are made by magnesium (marzocchi 34 mm) and the bridges are made by 7075T73 machined by solid pieces -the frame front part is made by 6061T6 welded -the frame rear part is made by 7075T73 jointed by screws only -the rear swingarm is from aprilia (as the wheels) -the plastics are SWM -the engine weight is 6 kg less than the original for any futher info please contact me by the forum/mail regards to all trials people Marco Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm specialy intersted in your exhaustsystem which is very neat tucked away beneath the airfilterhousing. This exceeds my skills by far :>( I plan to have a frame made in the future for this engine, out of nickled chromebolybdeen. Not just for the weight but also because I love the looks of this material. I owned Guzzi's from '78 and this bike was my trialdream come true. I was referring to Pre'65 regarding the Stornello Trialbike an Italian friend of mine is building at the moment. ducman Posted September 29, 2010 Report Share Posted September 29, 2010 @TY 250 NL(Arie), we went last weekend to the Plonkers Trial(Eurocup)in Arnhem and there was also one of your countryman competing on a stornello(4speed)i think he rode a Enfield before.There was also a guy on a SWM framed Kawasaki.Nice Bike.I have a few friends in Italy they ride Stornellos.They have ridden the Manx 2 Day Classic and the Jersey 2 Day with these bikes.Very Competitiv.We also have a few here in Germany riding these little Guzzis.
