hello there honda fans . i was wondering if any body can give me some tips on the float height i have read somewhere that the float height can affect all the other carb settings and when setting a carb up the float height should be the starting point i am using the stand pipe method (a small transparent pipe in the bottom of the carb to see the true level) I dont know wether the level should be up to the gasket or just below. the bike was running like a dog at first and when i checked it it was well down the chamber ,now i have set it to just below the gasket it is better but i am getting a fair bit of petrol coming out of the overflow pipe! . if any body has had any experience any help would be gratefull thanks .

25mm from the carb body to the lower edge of float...

Hope that helps...

hi there thanks for that it says that i my service, book but is that measurement as the tang touches the needle or as it says in my book just closing as the needle has i little spring in it i still think the most accurate way is to measure it like this picture

floatheight.jpg

as you can see on this pic the level is near the gasket . is that right.. for a tl though ?

ps this pic is not my carb.

Hi Zarkoff,

That's not a TL250 carb is it? The manual's not going to do any good there.

Just eyeballing it I would guess it's about 5mm too high.

hi brian no thats not the carb it s just a pic i got of the internet but it just helps to explain what i am saying . if it was would it be to high, and if so where would it have to be ?

As I understand it the measurement is taken just as the tang touches the needle...not as the needle starts to "move"...at least that's the way I do it...

hi there murry . i have just set it up with a new float and needle as you have just said (25mm) and when i checked it the level of petrol is about the same as in that picture so that must be right it seems to run spot on allthough i will have to try it out practicing . anyway thanks for everybodys help .
