bigdamo
Yes, the Japanese bikes and cars were piles of crap, at one point. Wouldn't buy one of them, during that time, either. Until China does follow suit, with a quality bike, why buy one? Any money saved up front will be more than spent on headaches, and repairs later. So far, the norm for the bikes coming from China, is to be pretty cheesy in quality and materials. Until the production Xispa shows up for real, and proves otherwise, there is nothing to substantiate a belief that they will exceed the current Chinese quality level. Mercedes Benz cars are made in China so are Chrysler .One of the biggest auto manufacturing plants in the world if not the biggest. There quality seems to be OK Watch out your Beta engine might be coming from China soon. Edited August 8, 2008 by bigdamo
bilc0
Mercedes Benz cars are made in China so are Chrysler . Now there's 2 car maker's well over estimated. In the 80's and 90's the common people drove ford escort's and fiesta's,in the 2000's the common people drive merc's and chrysler's.

Yeah, I see the ASDA car park full of Merc's every time we go shopping in the wife's Honda Jazz. In relation to China's manufacturing capabilities, they are more than capable of producing high quality engineered components. You simply have to shop around to find the best engineering companies which is no different to what you have to do in Europe.

Hahaha, your wife sound's sort of sensible. Come on open your eye's out there Atom, there's merc's everywhere out there or maybe you don't notice them is because there nothing special to look at anymore, you could pick up a half decent modern one for 4 grandish these day's. In the 50's to 70's thats when merc made the head turner's. Edited August 9, 2008 by bilc0
b40rt
The Chinese dont enter a market to fail ! Try looking at any of your household goods, clothing, shoes, furniture etc. They are coming of age. I would wait for any problems in any new product to be rectfied before buying. Residual valves might be a problem.

Maserati don't have a low end range, well not one a common person like myself could afford anyway. Although merc come out with a few specials now and again i would still rate them as mid marque now. nigel dabster
Give it till december and if the Xispa isn't out by then I'd give good odds on it never appearing. Its near enough a year now since it first appeared in the flesh in Andorra. i still maintai that if Sherco got their act together and revamped the motor then it would make the xispa obsolete....then again if thats what sherco have in mind then perhaps Xispa are waiting to get their hands on that to copy!!!! bilc0
Mid marque (mass market)? How many are above them then? This is the thing in mid marque there at the top but in top marque there at the bottom, mass market mean's they've become common. So how i see it they've dropped down in there rating's to mid marque. I remember when i went on holiday to greece in the late 80's every taxi was a merc in the uk at the same time every taxi was a ford or something worse and a drive in a merc for me at that time was like a dream, now in 2008 in the uk your starting to see taxi driver's driving merc's,that tell's me they've become cheap to buy and a common sight. you can buy a new renault today that has everything inside that a merc has.How would you rate renault, mid marque. I guess thats the reason why ford bought jaguar they wanted a top marque in the uk to market, but it did'nt realy work for them. You are saying Mercedes is 'mid marque' and Jaguar is top marque! you joking right? The main reason more people are driving more expensive cars is through years of cheap credit. If people had to actually BUY them, the picture would be much different! Anyway, this is way off this thread so should you wish to continue this debate, start a thread in anything goes forum
bilc0
but it did'nt realy work for them. You obviously did'nt read that bit Atom, jag was coming to the end in the 90's thats why they dumped it on to ford. Ok back on topic then. If Xispa ever made it into production what marque would we put it in?

Unfortunatly there is not much to revamp on the Sherco motor without making great sacrifices in reliability such as the Gas Gas pro motor. They(gassers) are on the edge, both in somewhat disfunctional design and reliability. The gassers still have their problems, that is the price of performance, yet what is amazing is they keep getting beat by monts an a world scale. An old bugger like Dabster would be unlikely to destroy anything though, and that makes for good service. And I can see where many love them. And just get new ones! Weight could be saved on the Sherco with the mag cases and trimming of gears. Gears? What is that? Last I checked RYP had never sold a replacement gear for a Sherco. As Xispa claim a lighter motor, it could be done! The Beta motor is not far off the mark. Roumours of a revamp? Possibly the leg muscles will require a change? As in the 4T! The Useful Life of an average bike? The cost of ownership? VS performance? It is yet to be determined how the Xispa will hold up! The others already have their reputations. t-shock 250
People have such short memories, when the early gas gas liquid cooled models came out the build quality was absolute crap...fact! I for one won't be passing an opinion on the xispa until it's properly out there in the real world, good luck to 'em i say. At least they have the balls to give it a shot.
