montyboy
2005 Montesa 4RT with no spark, after riding it and parking it up next time out it just would not start, checked all electrical connections, stop button, tilt sensor, spark plug etc. Has anyone get any ideas of what we can check next? Thanks
big john
Have you checked that the plug cap hasn't begun to arc out? Strange you had no problems parked bike up then it simply would not fire. Big John
nigel dabster
water in connections, have you washed it?
the addict
As BigJohn said more than likely the plug cap, Dads did the same and
trialsuk
We had that before and it turned out to be the coil mounted on the left side next to fan which had a connection underneath out of sight which was earthing out against the frame. Made good the connection problem sorted.
big john
Have you tried getting the bike to reset mode? Worth a try! Big John
oz thumper
If the throttle cable has been pulled up within the rubber sleeve on the twist grip, the throttle positioner reads the throttle as unsafe to start and kills both the spark and fuel injection. I had this last year after dropping the bike, worked all through the tests and electrical checks before I noticed the cable. Unlike a carburetted bike that is just hard to start if the throttle is open too far,the 4RT system shuts down when the throttle is to far open. Good luck
nigel dabster
Monty boy Instead of starting another thread, how about responding to the answers given above by knowledgable peps (not me!) who have taken the time to respond???????? jmlfin
HI As already said, I had the same problem. I was used to adjust the throttle so that it didnt have any slag in my old bike (Beta Rev3). I did the same thing with new 4RT and it didnt start. I also looked everything else but nothing helped. In the end I drove to imported and I was so embarrased to realise that it was this stupid mistake I made myself. Well, you always learn something new ;-)
oz thumper
Hi there Montboy, Have you established what the problem was yet? Problems solved are always interesting to file away in the back of the brain just in case we ever have the same issue.

montyboy
Sorry i have been having problems with my internet so have not been abe to reply to anyones suggestions. I have sorted the problem it turns out it was the stator, now there is a new problem. The bike starts well, ticks over nicely but misses on high revs. I have checked fuel system, everything seems ok. I have put in a new spark plug and checked all electrical connections. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks in advance
nigel dabster
Stator, you have the first one then did sandifords seem surprised? Who diagnosed the stator anyway?

nigel dabster
Bit like going to a doctor for toothache, but hey ho. Funny thing is its not right now, wonder if it really was the stator?
