mad4it
I had a good go on an 08 model yesterday and was very impressed seemed to have plenty of power throughout the rev range, i'm used to beata's and noticed it was lighter and more agile . i would doubt if i would buy one though as i reakon it would be very hard to sell on and you would loose a lot of money on one! perce
you would loose a lot of money on one! If you spent best part of 5 grand on a dog turd I think it'd be worth more after a year. Unfortunately the premature release of this bike onto Joe Public has given it an awful reputation, which I just don't see it getting over. copemech
I think that a bit harsh there Perce, yet only time will tell what the market will bear on a used 4T ov any type. Seems it is not hard to dump tons in a new one of any brand! Have you bought any Honda parts lately?

Have you bought any Honda parts lately? I've had had the good sense to buy the 3 4rt's I've had in used condition, last bike I had new was an 05 model Pro way back in September 2004. You will loose a packet on everything these days unfortunately but to loose that fortune you have actually got to be able to sell the bike, so 4t Sherco owners will be alright just as long as they don't want to change their bikes. BTW I no longer ride a 4 stroke.
mad4it
I think when buying a bike you have take in the overall picture and however good a bike is to look at ,to ride,to sell, reliability, it has to be taken into account not many people have enough money to buy on a whim and put up with what it will cost them if they make a bad choice ! higgypop
you are all stuck on the value of bikes if you like a model and you are going to stick with that marquee then you will get a good trade in. The montesa 4rt has its good points the suspension is very good plus the build quality, but it has its bad points the steering geomotry could be alot better it tends to push out on tight turns, also the rear plastics are c--p. montesa honda are clever in making a good bike that is not quit right that is why so many montesa owners spend thousands which they will not get a return on upgrading to a 300cc, also trying to improving the brakes that dont need it infact the list is endless on mods you can buy the end result is that you will be no closer to a works bike and you are left with an empty pocket, at least with a sherco 4t you are buying a bike you do not have to spend thousands on to get it to a 300cc and the bike is alot closer to a works bike than the montesa you get 320cc at no extra cost with more power than you will ever need all the parts work very good without the need to upgrade. Sorry, TFT, yet i must agree with him that the Sherco is still the best high performance 4T out there. Out of the box, it is light , agile and ready! The better the rider, the more he will like it! The new Gasser will be interisting for sure, time will tell.
higgypop
have you heard the gasgas 4stroke engine on you tube it sounds like a bag of nails but I do agree it will be interesting to see how it handles & grips.

No big deal on a gasser, the 2T rattles like hell too, so a few more valves and such will not make much difference! I figure it mostly because of the thin oil they must run due to the clutch setup. Fact is a Sherco rattles a lot on thin oil as well! Have seen it before!
