Hi all

I'm brand new to trial riding and fancy giving it a go, but i know nothing about any of it, i used to race motocross yrs ago but always fancied giving trials a go. so hopefully some good folks here can help me out. Heres what i want to do.

I have always loved the twinshocks i.e early 80's, late seventies twin shocks Monty's ,Bultaco's and Fantics etc (my era lol..) ...i'm not made of money so i need something cheapish so something like that seems to be reasonably priced....so what kind of classes can i enter with such a bike and is it worth me getting one, i want to do about an event or two a month would be enough, also full weekend jobs would also be a laugh (camp/caravan overnight job). I also hear that these do's are friendly social places rather than ultra competitive atmospheres, thats what i'm looking for really to have a bit of fun, I'm from north west england so events that i dont have to travel to far too would be good, is there plenty round me ? but i am prepared to travel to "weekend/two day" events. Any help here would be great thanks.

Hi,

Great idea,I started competing on twinshocks about 18 months ago and really enjoy it. Some clubs concentrate on pre65 bikes and twinshocks others on modern bikes and some let anything in at the same time, there are usually different routes depending on your skill level.

Any bike is good to start on but the more competitive riders in my club tend to ride fantics, majestys and honda tlrs.

The rider is the deciding factor once the bike is half decent. Give it a try and good luck.

twinshocks certainly the way to go get on ebay look at a few bikes spend 400 - 1000 on something ridable

for parts availability and value probably a ty250 for just dirt cheap a 70's montesa ( i know of a rideable/ competative, as is 348 locally for circa 550) if you want to spend a bit a bultaco or if your after the best twin shock a fantic ( spend a lot)

i wouldnt choose a p65 as they are specialised , gone are the days of turning up on an old thumper with trials tyres..

so for value and smiles a twinshock. if your in the north west red rose classic are happy to have twinshocks ( about 18 in most of thier trials they have dual routes on every section at every trial, trials are a tenner or altenatively they pay a tenner to observers..
