howard
Hi All, I have the opportunity to buy a 2005 4T. What should I look out for before I buy please? I've read the various posts but could some of you give me a summary of what mods would improve the bike. I'm only a lowly Clubman rider so I don't need masses of power. However I would like it to be reliable for starting and not stalling as well as smooth power! I assume- Keihin pwk 28 but what jets/needle/slide etc. and hot start kit? Is the '05 frame, shock and forks OK? Thanks for your help.
perce
Unless it's very very very cheap, DO NOT BUY IT.

perce
Seeing as though he's posted it in the Sherco forum I guess he is on about the 05 Sherco 4t. Only bike I've know where lads were talking it back to dealers & getting swaps. Don't believe they've ever really sorted out the starting issues with the bike, why are people still fitting upgrade carb kits? Why did Grimbo ride a 2t Sherco in this years Scott when he's rode a 4t all year? Surely the 4t Sherco is up to the toughest one day Trial in World? Why are the works riders signed up to ride 2t bikes? I've just noticed the guy describes himself as a lowly Clubman & doesn't want a bike that's a handful. Well the last Keihin carbed 4t Sherco I rode was a handful, infact I thought it was bloody awful, certainly not a bike for a rider with limited experience. ogri
Thanks Perce for the speedy reply . After posting I did notice it was under the Bulto/Sherco banner but I had made the post so it was to late !!! but as to Grimbo not riding the 4t in the Scott, I was rather suprised to see him riding a 2T. I suppose it could have been a fuel usage problem and a 2T was better for stratagy. As for the starting problems, as far as I am aware they do not exist since the upgraded coil and camshaft kit came along , the coil makes it start; the cam stops the top end rattle on tickover. As for the carb options i am sure that is down to rider preferance .I cannot see why a good well sorted looked after 4T needs to be cheap as they are as good as any other trials iron. steve fracy
Perce, I have had my 05 4t for about a year and half now. No starting issues. If it does not start, there is a reason. Last time I had a hard time( first time) in the summer, it was a plug issue. First one I had changed on it. I would like to put a Kehein on mine though. Anyone have any experience with it...As for Grimbo riding a 2T, maybe it is just a quicker bike to ride, revs better. steve
copemech
Reports from those such ad Steve and Ishy who have owned and ridden the '05 bike with the mod kit installed suggest little to no problems with the bike. Trust me, there is not a perfect 4T! As history prevails here, if there was a perfect one, there would never have been 2T in the first place! Not that they are perfect either! I could ride either, both seem to have their advantages and dis! I do think the 4T is more Earthy, and fun to ride, as we may all be back to roots as time goes on, nothing limiting here wtth the exception of cost of the moving parts that wear. We are in a transition period it seems of sort. A good rider will still beat you on either one!
perce
Ishy never fitted a mod kit to his bike, wise old monkey had the knack. Tight old monkey never sold it though, scrapped it, must have broke his heart losing brass on a bike. Grimbo rode a 2t in this years Scott. You have to stop your engine in the petrol checks, he lost time in the 2 previous years on the 4t with starting issues.
bobtlr
hey have my 2007 stroke 4 weeks now and no more problems starting it, (it is a habbit to start just like my montesa 4rt was) i don't have a hot start thing on my bike and it has the keihin carb. It does rattle on low tickover (i'm told its the decompression ? ) the bike runs great, lots of power verry easy to hop (feels lighter dan it is on paper) ive set the tickover a little higher ( starts better and doesn't stall ) regards bob
