dfwilson
Interesting, you talk about the ten commandments and make the assumption that because I don't believe in God I have a disregard to moral values. And don't tell me you all obey the rules of the ten commandments ... AtomAnt Wouldn't happen to be an Ayn Rand Objectivist would you? If not I suggest you read "Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology" and "Atlas Shrugged" Cheers DFW PS Everyone should read: "Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution", "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal", and "The Virtue of Selfishness: A New Concept of Egoism"
neonsurge
Wouldn't happen to be an Ayn Rand Objectivist would you? If not I suggest you read "Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology" and "Atlas Shrugged" I'm an Atheist. I've read "Atlas Shrugged" and several of Ayn Rand's academic essays and quite frankly they're crap and she was a freakin' nutcase. What pseudo-scientific ideology would you like to accuse me of being under the influence of next? Just because someone isn't with you, it doesn't mean they're against you. bikespace
Ok, so i'm gay - so how do you explain what being christian and white has anything to do with it? Interesting, you talk about the ten commandments and make the assumption that because I don't believe in God I have a disregard to moral values. And don't tell me you all obey the rules of the ten commandments ... If you're gay these days what's your wife doing on Saturday night Atom? Is "Thou shalt not covert a gay man's ex wife" in there or not, I can't remember. Where's all this religion cropping up from recently - is there a one man revival on the way? dfwilson
I don't really have much of an opinion on the outcome of the election apart from to say in my opinion, either McCain or Obama would be a huge improvement over BushChaney Corp. (a division of Halliburton Inc.) - and that's NOT a pop at conservatives, it's directed solely at an individual who I believe was astonishingly underqualifed for the job he did for 8 years and clung onto power through the promotion of hate and fear.Havig said that, I've been fascinated by the bi-partisan political system in the US and have spent the past couple of weeks trawling various well known left-leaning and right-leaning web sites in an attempt to make sense of a lot of stuff I didn't understand. The thing that's really disturbed me is the apparent viciousness and hate on both sides. The left's relentless assassination of Sarah Palin at a very personal level for example and worse, the right's suggestion that Obama killed his own grandmother for votes and following the result, the assertion that "what we couldn't do with our vote, we'll do with our bullets". This wasn't just one site either, I saw the same thing on two, very well-known Republican forums. Regardless of whether these were simply the extremist fringes of both sides or not, doesn't it suggest that things are getting a tad out of hand and that what the US really needs in order bring some perspective to the whole political landscape over there is a 3rd party? Neonsurge, This is the 3rd Party that I belong to. Libertarian Party

copemech
Enough debate in my political thread about religion! Yet it does baffle me how anyone can wake up, look around at their own exhistance, nature, the Earth, the Universe and think things are totally random and undriven, no source, no reason, no beginning, no end! No purpose! No faith! No hope! And that's all I have to say about that!

No purpose! No faith! No hope! Why does it baffle you? Does it baffle the millions of other species on this planet? I don't think so. I believe your question is the fundamental reason humans created the theory of an all encompassing god. It was a simple way to explain all these things. Today, we know much more and are growing in knowledge daily. With all this information now available, it is only a matter of time before the theory of god is completely dispelled. By the way, I was brought up as a Christian in a Christian family and baptised as such. As soon as I grew a brain and reasoned the information, I became an atheist. In my opinion, the evidence around me suggests that I am closer to the truth than you are. My final say on the matter as well Now, in relation to the Politics, I have great hope in Obama. He has by far a greater intelligence than Bush could ever have and has the potential to be one of the greatest US presidents ever. I really hope he pulls it off.
