tt5th
80:1 is a reasonable ratio. Thats 80 parts petrol to 1 part oil, or 63ml of oil per 5L of petrol. For this use a good quality fully synthetic oil.
29ty
Yes tt5th has it pretty much spot on. I have a 2003 290 and run it at 80:1. 12.5 mls per litre. I usually make 4 litres up, so thats 50 ml of decent two stroke oil to 4 litres of petrol giving some slosh space in a 5 ltr can.

shercoman2k8
sorry but is 80ml oil in 5l petrol 100:1? If so I reckon that may be aiding my fuel problems?
copemech
sorry but is 80ml oil in 5l petrol 100:1? If so I reckon that may be aiding my fuel problems? Do they offer MATH in school, there? Example! 5000 / 62.5 = 80:1 4000 / 50 = 80:1 or 5000 /80 = 62.5 ml 4000 /80 = 50 ml Now try your own with just one liter! Convert all that to a US gallon jug an tell the answer! in ml!
shercoman2k8
Ive just never sat around and thought about it. The dealer just told me to use 80ml per 4.9 litre. Used it ever since but never really had a strong tickover! Will try it tommorow when mixing the fuel up.
benc1980
blimey, ive never run a 2 stroke at those kind of ratios.. 33:1 is best for 2 strokes and dont use a motocross race oil as its 2 heavy.. you need a good road 2 stroke oil.. like helix 2t or morris plus 2... you loose power running too rich and there is less lubrication for the engine parts. jonnybmac
I got told and have mixed 10 litres up with 200ml of oil in. Is this far too much?

jonnybmac
Good, I was paranoid about leaving the dregs in the bottom of the measurung cup but after reading that some people only put 62ml into 5 litres I'm not so worried now! benc1980
http://www.rctek.com/pdf/fuel_to_oil_ratio_chart.pdf i use 33:1 but you must not use oil designed for motocross bikes its designed for engines that are flat out all day long and they will foul the plug.. you must use a light road 2 stroke oil.. tony27
Can't say I've ever fouled a plug in a trials bike while running 80:1 with a good oil-Motorex powercross which claims to be usable up to 100:1 in mx bikes
