woody
Hard to tell from the photo angle but could be a Japanese aftermarket Kato I think Shirt tail pipes were only in steel Edited January 14, 2009 by Woody
baldilocks
Shirty did make some in aluminium, I had one, or it could be steel painted silver
andy m
I didn't think it could be steel painted silver of course. I will pick the bike up Saturday. Also just noticed didn't they have the stand on the right ?? This is on the left ??
baldilocks
The stand was on the left on the S model so this is either an early R with an S model swinging arm or an S model with the small tank and seat. good bike either way
andy m
Got it back today and it is an S model with R plastic tank. Removed silencer it is steel, any ideas who's it may be. The welding is very neat.

andy m
I'd bet your house thats a shirt silencer, is it straight through ? it should be Yes the pipe that exits the back is about 3 or 4 " long going back inside but otherwise it is straight through. What was the benefit of this silencer if any ? Thanks. Edited January 17, 2009 by bo drinker
woody
Could well be a Shirt silencer yes, I seem to remember a different shape one from his usual type appearing at some stage. It's actually the same shape as the Kato one that I have but that is in alloy. Straight through should sharpen it up and maybe give it more mid to top end power. If the perforated tube in the silencer has an S bend it makes it a bit softer ans gives a bit more bottom end torque
eddie_lejeune
in the early days there were a few s models with plastic tanks, not saying thats what yours is, just stating a fact
kuelmuel
Does it have a head steady on the cylinder head? If it does then I think it's an S, the later Rs didn't have the headsteady but I can't remember if they did in 84-87, as I don't know much about those ones. Mines the 88, the one before the pinky. They're the bestest ones.
