txt_280
Hi all, Can anyone advise on what's the best tyre for muddy conditions?? At home where I do most of my riding is's pretty much all mud apart from the river bed, currently use a mitchelin x11 which came on the bike, which spins like crazy. Are there any better ones or are trials bikes just ment for the dry stuff? Cheers
tt5th
What condition is the tyre in? Once the edge has gone on your nobbles the performance in mud drops off a lot. In general the Michelin is a very good tyre.
max1956bikes
i recon the michelin is best tyre to use, have you let it down to about 3 or 4 psi?or it may be your riding techniqe.
scorpa3
It's all mud here and I personally prefer the IRC over the Michelin. The IRC's certainly don't last as long though.
grahamjayzee
I'm trying out a pair of Vee-Rubber tyres and they are turning out OK. I managed to find grip at The Matchless trial today and it were properly muddy! I shall keep you all posted, but with my current state of ****ness, the tyres are not a handicap! bobtlr
hey, i also perfer the irc tyre, specially in winter when the michelin rubber is to hard. in the summer i use michelin on my sherco, the irc is a bit to soft then on my twinshock i alway use tubeless irc regards bob
greg
I see you have a 280 gasser, maybe tyre choice wont make a deal of difference, you may need to look at calming the bike down a bit.
gsk
Hi Im running an irc at the moment but i find it to soft they great for the mud but no good for rocks so im going back to a dunlop!
bowellsyboy
I used to use the michellin but switched to the IRC and havent looked back. I find they give much more grip in the mud. They also tend to fling the mud out of the grips and not get clogged up the same as other brands which i think makes a big difference. james_taylor
after the michelin tyre runs out i buy IRC tyres, i find theyre good in the mud ... dont last as long as michelin though
slapshot 3
Simply put, the harder your knobbles the better it'll go in the sloppy stuff ..... or in proper English, the Michelin is of a softer compound than the others IRC and Vee Rubber, even Dunlop and the horrible Pirelli. Therefore it'll grip better on rocks and in burns but maybe the compromise is mud.
