trialsrfun
Am considering fitting a pair of TY250 air cooled forks to our TY175 Majesty which has the nickel plated Godden frame. I understand that the fork yokes are the same on both bikes but bored out to 34mm to accept the stronger legs in the case of the 250, but the Majesty has taper roller head bearings whereas the TY250 forks are loose ball bearings, does the taper roller bearing simply fit onto and in place of the ball race on tyhe TY250 steering stem? thank you for your help TRF
stork955
Gday, as far as I know the centre tube is the same on 175 and 250 twin shocks. ( They use the same steering bearing set)Just the fork diameter varies. I only assume the Majesty's use the same part. trialsrfun
Any one know if the taper roller bearings from the TY175 Majesty are a straight fit onto the TY250 steering stem or are modifications reqd?
ducman
The Yokes from the Ty 175 are smaller then the 250 yokes. If you want to put 250 forks in the 175 yokes it will not fitt. You have to change the complete yokes. But this is a plug and play thging. majesty320
Speak to John at Trail and Trials UK he should be able to help you. I know he carries taper bearing kits for TY175 and 250 he is also clued up with Majesty tech and could recommend the way to go. http://www.tytrials.co.uk/
woody
TY175/250 use the same yokes, the 250 are just bored bigger to take the bigger diameter forks. The stem is the same as well as they both use the same bearings. Some Godden frames used taper rollers, like yours. It's a long time since I had one of those so can't remember if the taper bearings are a different size from the cup and ball type of the original TY. I imagine that the ID of the bearings is the same as the TY frame and it is only the OD that would be different to fit a different sized headstock. I can't imagine they altered the steering stem on those Majesties with taper rollers to take different bearings, so I would think you could swap them without problem. It's easy enough to check if you have the 250 yokes already, just remove the 175 yokes and compare them.

feetupfun
My 1981 Godden 250 frame has the same diameter bearing seats in the frame as the TY250 and TY175
johnnyboxer
Thank you everyone, thank you Woody for your help much appreciated. If you want a good set of TY175 yokes and stem, which have been machined out to 36mm to accept Mono TY250 front forks and wheel, send me a PM. They are surplus now and can be for sale and would fit straight onto your bike Edited February 13, 2009 by Johnnyboxer
