erixon Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 I'm about to change the fork oil for the first time, and got some questions There's a little screw in the bottom of the fork, is that for draining the oil ?? When the oil is drained, must i open the large nut at the top of the fork leg or what ??? biffsgasgas Posted November 6, 2004 Report Share Posted November 6, 2004 (edited) erixon, I changed my fork oil this past winter on my 2000 280 txt. Used bel-ray 5 w 300cc per side. First removed each fork. Not really needed but was easier. Second back the nut on top of each fork all the way off. (notice here that the spring and every thing stays together. Third remove the small philips head screw from the bottom of each. Fourth pump the tube in and out of the fork. (After about 1/2 hour found that this drained the fork in 10 seconds) (second fork was done in 2 min) Then put the philips back in the bottom (make sure that o-ring is good on the screw) I used 300 cc for each side using a measuring glass and pouring it into the spring. Screw the nut back in to the fork and pump a couple of times. Wala. I took the forks off because it was easier to get the nut off of the top of the tube and it was much more manageable.
