pete_scorpa3
Here's something just a little different. One of our Club members John Cart, has just finsihed rebuilding a Triumph Metisse, it is a 1963 bike which was fitted from new with a 1953 alloy barrel 500 twin motor. Here is a video of it's first ride in well over 15 years. John tells me that it is the exact model as used in the Great Escape film, he plans to use it at Red Marley on Easter Monday. swooshdave
I think "exact model" is a bit of an exaggeration. London Times Perhaps that is where your friend was mistaken. For the re-enactment they used a Metisse but in the original movie it was a stock (but modified) Triumph.

trialsrfun
Love the bike, certainly brought a smile to my face. Good luck at Red Marley hope to see you there.
toofasttim
My dad had a '67. Lovely thing it was too. We went to the factory to collect. I remember it well.
flowerpotracing
Cant be sure from the pictures or video, but it looks to have the original strap metal foot rests. If it does, they wont let you race it like that. Take them off and keep them and buy some new assemblies from Adrian Moss. It would be a shame to have done all that work, entered the event and then not be allowed to ride when it fails scruitineering (and if it has fixed footrests, it WILL fail!) Will look out for the bike at the event.
pete_scorpa3
Well spotted, yes it did indeed have the solid footrests fitted last Thursday, the motor is now out and the brackets for folding pegs are being welded in place. Cheers for the tip off.
