vasey15
I'm having problems with my 08' sherco 320 4T, again. I'm getting what seems to be the honda cough. I'm getting in to sections and when i slow the throttle to take a tight turn or hop it, it stalls, then take a good 10 mins to start. I also have problems when i cut the engine to look at a section, say 5 sections in, it takes again about 10 mins to kick over. any suggestions or comments? stork955
That sounds like Hot Soak. Common problem. Try using just a small crack of throttle when hot starting - it leans it out slightly to compensate for rich fuel mist floating around in the inlet manifold. Costs nothing! copemech
Clean the carb and ck the float level and needle seat for trash. I think an inline filter is needed on these things. It really should not die when hopping a bit unless the float level is too high for some reason. Be sure to tilt the carby at a 45 degree angle when checking it, as level will throw it off a bit due to the float weight... The needle valve should just close(toutch) at the spec height, which is 19mm as I recall. Hope that helps,
wayne thais
I only have a few hours on my 09 4T and started having the same problem. I also noticed fuel dripping out of the overflow tube. It even started dying going down a hill. I have had the carb off a least half a dozen times and after talking to Ryan took very close note of the float needle and seat, I cleaned the seat EXTREMELY thoroughly and then set the float as Cope stated, put it back together and it is running great. Ryan said that he has found tiny pieces of clear material on the needle seat that he had to use a dental pick to remove. The needle and float setting on the Keihin seems to be very touchy. I also installed an inline fuel filter again per Cope's suggestion. Wayne

I just cannot testify as to how good those things really are(in micron size) to keeping crap out, but anything is better than (next to) nothing, and these things seem to be very sensitive, not only in the 4T, as I have had it in the 2T as well. As I could go soo far to mention that I have seen the Pro's clean and inspect carbs prior to any event, i would at least add too, drain, into a clear bottle and just see what kind of sediment or moisture is coming out of your fuel can peridocially, when you empty it! You may be surprised! If not, just pour it in the tank! At least you checked it!
