kevc
Hi, out on the bike yesterday and it coughed and spluttered and then ran backwards ! once it had cooled down it was fine but as soon as it warmed back up it did it again I'm thinking timing, woodruff key or stator problem, any ideas ? stork955
Woodruff key sheared is most likely culprit. Pop the flywheel off and check it out. Use the proper tool - it will save building in any new problems! HTH Cheers, Stork
kevc
The woodruff key is fine, I have just spoken to Lampkins and their certain it's the CDI and there
dan williams
Yup, running backwards is an indication of the timing being way off. Check it with a timing light first. Takes a little jury rigging connecting to a car battery but it can be done. Make sure the timing is advancing with increase in RPM and that it is in the correct place. Make sure ground connections and all are good. Make sure all connections are the right way round. I had an Armstrong that ran backwards, over heated and generally ran bad. Turned out the trigger and charge wire from the stator was reversed so it was retarding the ignition when it should have been advancing. Took two years to find that one. Be a shame to spend
