Hello could anyone please tell me the difference between a standard yamaha mono rear hub and a talon item.If I had a talon do I need a talon sprocket .Is the pitch of the holes the same as a standard yamaha hub and will, say a renthal fit both. Was the alloy kickstart an after market addition or standard on some models most have the long steel one which does look more substantial,Or where they all alloy and have been replaced over the years.many thanks for your help ,suzuki tc.

The difference between a Talon and a standard Yam Hub are the spokes. The Talon uses normal spokes(one left, one right)and the standart Yam hub uses"Z"spokes. They are doublt lenght then a standart spoke and very, very hard to put in and i think nearly tripple price of standart spokes.

I've got both types of hub - one as a spare. The same sprockets fit both - I use Renthal. The Talon wheel uses the same spacers and backing plate and I've found mine to be a bit more waterproof than the standard one. The spokes are different as explained previously in this thread.

The kickstarts were alloy for a while but certainly by the late '80s onwards in the UK they were steel. Nigel Birkett can supply you with an alloy kickstart that will fit, although it requires a little bit of filing and is a bit shorter than the steel one so needs a bigger kick!

Cheers - Alan
