Help Needed With Several Ty250 Twin Shock Questions

Hello

I have just picked up two Yamaha TY250 Twinshock bikes today. 1 Is Complete the 2nd is a bit of a basket case but even the better out of the two bikes needs a fair amount of work to get it going.

Had a little play about once I got them in the garage and one of the bikes is leaking fuel from the carb. There is two Pipe nipples on the carb, one is located at the back of the carb low down by what looks like a jet (this is a brass nut at the very back of the carb just under the air inlet)and the other is low down on the carb on the opersite side of the choke lever, Should these be connected to anything? The AutoLubes have been ditched on both bikes, I was wondering if these was used for that and may be they just need blocking off.

Also I need to get my hands on a Manual for these bikes but I cannot find any referance to one, I have seen plenty for the TY175 but nothing for the 250? does anybody know where I can source one of these.

I am looking to restore both bikes and then get out and do some trials on them, so I hope I wont be posting to many (stupid) questions on the board

Thanks in Advance

Mark

Depending on what models you acquired then the oil inlet from the posilube system is different. On the TY250A (1974) with frame No 434- the oil system went directly into the base of the cyclinder on the right side. Onthe later Ty's, frame No 494- it went into the side of the carb on the right side. If you are keeping the original carbs, strip and clean! If not and for great performance fit prejetted Mikuni VM26 carbs using 150-155 main and 30-35 pilot jets. With regard to manuals you can find them on ebay and both the Parts and Repair books work well. The parts manual shows everything and is a good source of info for ordering.

Thanks for the Advice gents, I am just about to go out in the garage and strip the carbs down, I would like to run the bikes up before stripping them down for the rebuild just to make sure that there is nothing to badly amiss with the engine's.

Although looking at the second bike this morning it might just be best to use it for spares as the frame has a few cracks etc but time will tell.

Thanks again

Mark
