bowerz
I'm looking where to get 1 or 2 large wooden cable drums near Southampton. Would anybody know? I would be able to go and pick them up and i am prepared to pay for them (but not silly amounts). I don't mind whether they're used, but i don't reallt want to my from a drum manufacturer as they will be expensive as they are gonna get beat up from the bikes anyway. Anybody have any advice? If anybody also know where to get palletts for free near Southampton aswell that would be great.
clarkey
Hi there, Yes!! Finally they are Cable Drums, the usual "Cotton Reels" fiasco is getting tiring. I work for the company that supplies the drums for the indoor trial at Sheffield. We always have a yard full of pallets and different size drums. I can enquire for you but i think they are abit pricey and we are at Chesterfield in Derbyshire. tsr22b
Cruise around the trading estates, a lot of pallets are non returnable and some companies will be only too glad to get rid of them.- Honestly. As for cable drums, do you know anyone who works for BT or one of the electricity companies? They usually have odd empty drums kicking about in the yard. You just have to be brave and go and ask. Hope this helps.
bowerz
Thanks Clarkey, But Derbyshire is a bit too far! tsr22b, I think i may have to do that, we do get a few palletts in at work but they have to be used to send faulty bits (or bits for warrenty jobs) back to Peugeot . If there is anybody thaat knows of a company or works for a company around Southampton that does have drums/palletts they want to get rid of, please let me know! ham2
Do you really want a cable drum? Can you not fabricate a suitable step/platform? The reason I'm asking is that I presume you're riding them outdoors and when they get the slightest moisture on them they're lethal. Even prep-ing them with chicken wire or grit won't help. bowerz
They will under a roof (well indoors) so that shouldn't be a problem and I've got some decent anti slip paint as it is wood.

I live in New Whittington so its probably just down the road! All the best Tom
